ISTJ Personality Type

This is one of the most common personality types. Around 12 percent of the population are believed to be an ISTJ type. These are reserved individuals, observant of reality, punctual, good organisers and logical thinkers. They are very precise with facts and details, and they like to consume and give information in an orderly and linear fashion.

They are usually well dressed and smart looking, if somewhat conventional. They’re not looking for attention, so their dress sense reflects that, usually choosing to wear dark colours and generally dressing conservatively. They’re unlikely to follow trends or fashion. Entertainment wise, they prefer true stories, books and movies that tilt towards the realistic.

The ISTJ personality is suited to careers that give them a decent amount of alone time and privacy. Also, something that is detail focused, which allows them to fulfill their desire for organisation and order. An accountant would be a good example of a suitable career. ISTJ Personality Type Strengths

Attention to Detail

With dominant sensing, the ISTJ is very good at paying attention to the details. They won’t miss much, they live in the moment, and they’re innately very observant.

Honest & Straight Talking

With thinking being their auxiliary function, they prefer honesty, logic, and directness, rather than being preoccupied by political correctness, or their emotions.

Hard Working

ISTJs have a strong preference for work over play. They are driven to complete a task or job before being able to relax and engage in recreational activities.

Dutiful

Fulfilling their expected duty is very important to them. This also makes them very loyal. If they say they will do something, or commit to achieving a certain result, they feel a strong impulse or psychological desire to fulfill that goal or promise.

Good Organiser

They have a psychological desire to organise, and generally want things to be in order. This is also linked to wanting things clean and symmetrical. If they’re not too introverted or shy, they can make good managers.

ISTJ Personality Type Weaknesses

Uncompassionate

The ISTJ can often be inconsiderate and insensitive to the feelings of others, possibly causing frictions and fallouts within the group or workplace.

Conventional & Uncreative

The ISTJ personality tends to have conservative values, and seeks to keep with traditions. These are not necessarily bad, however, this type of thinking has difficulty with change and adaption. Generally, they are not good at coming up with new ideas. They almost always do everything by the book, which can be limiting, even perhaps dangerous, depending on the book.

Judgmental

They can be prone to making quick judgments and black and white thinking. Once judgments are made, they can find it difficult to adjust those judgments. Black and white thinking also often misses subtle differences or changes, or the absence of nuance.
