Personality Development Tips

Don't take egos personally quote.

Ways to improve your personality, can it be done? this page includes some personality development tips.

It was once believed that our personalities are permanent and cannot be changed. However more recent studies in psychology are moving away from this static view of the personality. It is now commonly believed that we can influence our personality and change certain habits about how we think and how we perceive the world.

There are certain parts about ourselves that can be changed and other parts which are fixed around certain biological differences. So there are certain things that we can change and certain things that we can’t. However there is always room for growth and improvement.

What is Personality?

Personality is basically the way we think about things. For example, do we have a positive or negative outlook on the world, or even the universe. It’s also to do with how we control our emotions, whether we are introverted or extroverted and various other behaviour and personality traits.

Having a likable personality can be more important than having good looks. Looks can be changed and so can our personalities, perhaps dramatically in some cases.

Personality Development Tips

Be Positive

Most people tend not to like people that are negative and who are always complaining and whining about something or someone. Negative thinking is generally not an attractive personality trait and it tends to repel people. Of course the opposite is generally true of the positive thinkers in the world. Emotions can be contagious so if you portray a positive attitude people are more likely to be drawn to you.

Have Integrity

Showing integrity and treating people with respect, being honest and true to your word will improve you as a person dramatically. If you treat somebody with respect they are more likely to show it to you in return.

Develop New Interests & Learn New Skills

The more knowledge and interests that we have will make us more interesting as a person. Having more interests will allow us to get along better with more people and have more interesting conversations with those people.

Listen to People

When you give somebody your full attention it’s pretty much the same as complementing them. People like to feel important and one way to do that is listening to them fully.

See the humorous side of life

Try and see the funny side of life, humor is a great way to see things in a more positive light. It’s also a great way to defuse a situation and it’s generally a likeable trait.

Be Self Aware

Being self aware allows us to see character traits that may not be desirable, for example being too ego centric, narcissistic, arrogant/hubris having too much pride, being delusional and a whole host of other defensive personality behaviours. These things can cause problems with our relationships with people, if we are aware of these traits, it is the first step in correcting them.
